A Spectacular Spring Fair
The day of the KRB Spring Fair dawned brightly over the Fernon Family Field and a full Chapel blessed our special day with a beautiful Mass before moving over the road for the official opening.
Our Principal, Mrs Hilary Johnston-Croke was delighted to introduce Member for Wentworth, The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull, Federal Member for Wentworth, to open the 2011 KRB Spring Fair as a light breeze fluttered the pretty bunting on all our school stalls.
The food offerings for KRB Spring Fair were outstanding with the beautiful tea stand doing a roaring trade, while ‘Bangers n Buns’ and ‘Fancy Grub’ fed the hungry crowds, the Lemonade and ‘Watermelon Stand’ offered cooling treats and ‘Sweet Little Things’ kept our littlest guests busy decorating cupcakes.
‘Kids Corner’ was jam-packed with fun; painted faces, many a splatted-rat, colourful plasters and yes.... those goldfish at Gone Fishin’! Showbags were also a big hit and the beautiful entries for our cake competition saw the tables at the Cake Stall groaning under their weight.
Big and little kids alike delighted in the rides with something for everyone from Bungy to Ironman and Water Walkers to Shark Slide and our expert ride operators estimated nearly 6,000 visitors across Fair day.
The shopping strip was very busy; books galore at the ‘Booknook’ and armfuls of colour at ‘Blossoms and Blooms’, worm wee from the Joigny Centre and ‘Country Fare’ with everything from jam to body oil and pork crackling to coconut ice, while sweet and sour treats and lollipops were the order of the day at the ‘Lolly Garden’.
The MTC Carpark was home to an amazing array of prestige and classic cars with visitors coming from far and wide to see the beautiful vehicles and the local police and fire service stopping by to meet members of the KRB community.
Outside under the sun the Chocolate Wheel spun ‘round and ‘round, while three wine auctions ran across the day. Inside visitors to the ‘Bare Canvas Art Gallery’ were most impressed with the artworks, a perfect backdrop to the Entertainment Program in the Auditorium. The inside stage was a hive of activity with our beautiful children singing, dancing, skipping and performing their hearts out culminating in our surprise performance from Sneaky Sound System.... sneaky indeed!
Students, staff, parents and even grandparents all came together for a special community day. Many families volunteered their time, services from their businesses and other expertise to make the Spring Fair the special day it was. Staff in both Senior and Junior schools and ancillary staff offered their support to the event, with many working all or part of the day on one of the many stands or stalls or behind the scenes to help the event run smoothly.
Past parents, ex-students, staff, current families and students, future families and our neighbours
were all welcome at the KRB Spring Fair to take part in the fun and experience the example of St Madeleine Sophie Barat in action and be a part of the living Cor Unum spirit at Kincoppal – Rose Bay.
