International Students at Kincoppal–Rose Bay
A Sydney education. A global community. A place to belong.
Kincoppal–Rose Bay (KRB) welcomes international students from Kindergarten to Year 12 to our beautiful school in Sydney, Australia. International students may attend KRB as day students from Kindergarten to Year 12 while living with their families in Sydney, or join our girls’ boarding community from Years 7–12.
Located in Rose Bay in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, KRB offers international students an exceptional Australian education in a spectacular setting overlooking Sydney Harbour. Students are welcomed into a diverse and caring community where they are known as individuals, encouraged to develop their talents and supported to grow in confidence, independence and a genuine sense of belonging.
International students are fully part of everyday life at KRB. They learn alongside Australian students, build friendships across cultures and participate in the academic, sporting, creative, leadership, service and social opportunities of the School. For students who board, KRB also becomes their home in Sydney, providing the friendships, care and support of a close boarding community while they experience life in one of the world’s great international cities.
As a Sacred Heart school, KRB has a strong international outlook and belongs to a global network of Sacred Heart schools and communities. Our students are encouraged to be curious about the world, open to different cultures and perspectives, and confident in building connections with people beyond their own experience.
For families moving to Sydney, KRB offers their daughter continuity from Kindergarten through to Year 12 within one welcoming school community. For families living overseas, boarding from Year 7 to Year 12 provides the opportunity for their daughter to experience an Australian education while living in a safe, supportive and internationally minded school environment.
Whether a student comes to KRB with her family or travels from another country to board with us, we want her to feel that she is much more than an international student.
She is a KRB student—known, valued and welcomed as part of our community.
International Students
We welcome International Students to join our KRB family. As both boarding and day students, International Students are encouraged to participate in the cultural and sporting life of the school, alongside other boarders and day students from all over NSW.
International Boarding
Language Support
All international students have the opportunity to study their home language, either through their studies at KRB or through the Saturday School of Community Languages. Chinese (Mandarin) is offered as an elective language for all students from Year 5-12.
We also provide EALD support through specialised classes for elective subjects in Year 7-10. For Years 11 and 12 we offer EALD and Fundamentals of English courses. These classes are run by experienced support teachers.
All boarding students, including international boarders, can also access our tutoring program in the library each afternoon.
We recognise the importance of open communication between families and staff. So, for all parent-school communication, we ensure that there are translators available as required.
Pastoral Support
Your daughter will be well supported with pastoral support through both the boarding house as well as academic and cocurricular programs. This includes Year Coordinators and Pastoral Support Mentors, Heads of Boarding House, Counsellors and the International Students Coordinator.
We strongly adhere to the ESOS (Education Services for Overseas Students) Act. We regularly inspect homestays and maintain open channels of communication with your daughter’s nominated local support person.
As a boarder, KRB is your daughter’s home away from home. We provide her with a warm and welcoming environment in which she can realise her full potential. This includes an extensive cocurricular program of choir, music, orchestral and sports, including badminton.
Cultural Diversity
As a school, we celebrate the individual contribution of each student, of which cultural diversity is an important element.
We celebrate key events such as Lunar New Year as well as cultural diversity lunches, activities and assemblies. We also provide opportunities for our students to share and represent their culture. We have a Head of International Students role on our student leadership team as well as a Cultural Diversity Committee and Captains.
International Alumnae
The KRB principal regularly visits overseas locations to both connect with current parents as well as KRB alumnae.
Through the Sacré Cœur Association of NSW, our students and alumnae are connected with our global network of Sacred Heart Schools. Once your daughter graduates from Kincoppal-Rose Bay she will be a part of this global network for life.

Boarding at KRB is available for girls from Year 7 to Year 12.
For many international families, Year 7 (12-13 years old) is an ideal time to join because students begin their secondary education alongside other girls who are also new to the School.
Students can also enter KRB in later year groups, subject to availability.
Yes. One of the strengths of the KRB experience is that international students are part of the same boarding community as Australian students.
International girls do not have a separate boarding experience. They live, study, eat, participate in activities and build friendships alongside girls from regional Australia, interstate and other countries.
This helps international students become immersed in Australian life, develop their English through everyday interactions and form friendships beyond their own cultural or language group.
We understand that moving to another country and starting a new school can feel exciting and challenging at the same time.
Our Head of International Students and Admissions Office will answer any questions before you arrive. Once you are at our school , our boarding and school staff help girls become familiar with their new routines, make friendships and develop a sense of belonging within the community.
Boarding also provides something particularly valuable for international students: when the school day finishes, they remain surrounded by friends and supportive adults rather than returning to an unfamiliar environment alone.
Our aim is for KRB to become a genuine home away from home.
Homesickness is a normal experience for many young people living away from their families, particularly during the first weeks of boarding.
KRB’s boarding staff get to know the girls in their care and are available to listen, reassure and provide practical support. Friendships with other boarders are also an important source of support because girls live alongside others who understand what it is like to be away from home.
As girls become involved in school, sport, activities and boarding life, they usually develop routines, friendships and increasing confidence.
We also recognise that parents remain an essential part of their daughter’s life and encourage appropriate and regular connection with home.
We understand that distance makes communication especially important for international families.
KRB maintains communication with parents about their daughter’s learning, wellbeing and school experience through our Head of International students. Families can also communicate with relevant school and boarding staff when they have questions or concerns.
Technology makes it much easier for girls to remain connected with their families across different countries and time zones while developing the independence that comes with boarding.
Our goal is for international parents to feel that, although they may be thousands of kilometres away, they remain connected to their daughter and her school.
International boarders are fully integrated into the academic life of KRB and have access to the School’s learning and academic support structures.
An important advantage of boarding is the structure it provides around study. Girls have designated time for academic work and learn to manage their workload and develop effective study habits. We have dedicated English as a Second Language teachers on our staff who assist students in developing their English language skills and confidence in the classroom.
Boarders also benefit from supervised study sessions in the Homework Centre, where professional tutors, including experienced teachers and high-achieving university students, provide academic support. Boarders have exclusive access to these tutors each evening from 6.00pm to 8.00pm, enabling them to receive personalised assistance with subject-specific challenges, assessment preparation, study skills, and organisation. This dedicated support helps students develop confidence, independence, and strong academic habits.
Living on campus also means that learning, co-curricular activities, friendships, and boarding life are closely connected, creating a supportive environment in which students can thrive academically and personally.
International applicants need to meet KRB’s current academic and English-language entry requirements.
The level of English required may vary according to a student’s age, year of entry and individual circumstances. Families should speak with the KRB Admissions team about the requirements that apply to their daughter.
Once at KRB, international students benefit from being immersed in an English-speaking school and boarding environment every day.
Sydney is one of Australia’s major international cities and attracts students and families from around the world.
At KRB, girls have the security and structure of living within a school boarding community while also benefiting from the educational, cultural and recreational opportunities available in Sydney.
Our Rose Bay campus provides an exceptional environment overlooking Sydney Harbour, giving girls the experience of living in a global city within the support of a close school community.
Weekends are an important part of the KRB boarding experience.
Girls have time for sport, activities, study, relaxation and friendships, as well as opportunities to experience Sydney.
KRB’s location means boarders can enjoy the advantages of living in Sydney, including its beaches, parks, cultural attractions, sporting events and other experiences.
For an international student, weekends provide opportunities not only to have fun with friends but also to become familiar with Sydney and Australian life.
Arrangements for school holidays vary according to the length of the break and a student’s individual circumstances.
International families should discuss holiday, travel, accommodation and guardianship arrangements with KRB before enrolment so there is a clear plan for their daughter throughout the school year.
The Admissions and Boarding teams can explain the School’s current requirements and arrangements to prospective families.
Guardianship and welfare arrangements for international students depend on Australian visa requirements, a student’s age and the arrangements approved by the School.
Our Admissions Office works with international families and their agents to ensure the appropriate arrangements are understood before a student commences.
Families should speak directly with the KRB Admissions team about the requirements applying to their daughter.
The health and wellbeing of boarders are important parts of the care provided at KRB. We have nursing staff who work in our boarding school. In addition, we are close to local doctors and hospitals.
If a student becomes unwell, boarding staff follow the School’s health and wellbeing procedures and ensure she receives appropriate care. Parents are contacted as appropriate, particularly when further medical attention is required.
International families can discuss KRB’s healthcare procedures, insurance requirements and emergency arrangements with the School before their daughter commences.
Sydney Airport is within the Sydney metropolitan area and KRB is located in Rose Bay in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs about 30 minutes from the airport.
International families should discuss arrival, departure and airport-transfer arrangements with the Boarding or Admissions team before travel, particularly when a student is travelling independently.
Clear travel plans help ensure that a girl’s arrival in Sydney and transition into boarding are as smooth as possible.
Yes. International boarders are encouraged to participate fully in the co-curricular life of KRB.
Depending on their interests, girls can become involved in opportunities across sport, music, performing arts, creative activities, service, leadership and other areas of school life. Students at KRB can learn instruments and take part in STEM initiatives. All secondary students must play a sport. Sports like tennis, swimming and badminton are popular with our International students.
Participation is particularly valuable for international students because activities provide another way to make friends, develop confidence and feel part of the wider School community.
International students have many opportunities to develop friendships with Australian students because they are fully integrated into both school and boarding life.
Girls share classes, meals, study, activities, sport, celebrations and the everyday experiences of living together.
These friendships are one of the great benefits of international boarding. Girls leave KRB with connections not only across Australia but around the world.
Yes. Kincoppal–Rose Bay is part of the international Sacred Heart network, connecting KRB with Sacred Heart schools and communities around the world.
This global outlook is an important part of a KRB education. It encourages girls to understand perspectives beyond their own community and to see themselves as people who can contribute to a wider world.
For international families, this combination of a distinctly Australian education and an established international educational tradition can make KRB particularly appealing.
International families choose schools for many different reasons, and finding the right fit for an individual girl is important.
KRB offers a distinctive combination: we are a leading girls’ boarding school in Sydney; 165 boarders from Years 7–12; an extraordinary Sydney Harbour location; a welcoming Australian and international community; an all-girls education; and the values and global connections of a Sacred Heart school.
Most importantly, we want every international boarder to be more than an international student at KRB. We want her to be known, valued and fully part of our community.
She may arrive in Sydney from another country.
Our hope is that, before long, she can say:
“KRB is my school. Sydney is my city. And this is my home away from home.”
Families are warmly invited to speak with the KRB Admissions team about their daughter, her year of entry and the international enrolment process.
Families visiting Australia can arrange to experience our Rose Bay campus and learn more about boarding life. For families overseas, an online conversation provides an opportunity to meet members of our team, ask questions and begin getting to know KRB before travelling to Sydney.
