The Year 7 Experience
Empowering girls to achieve excellence through balance
Commencing Year 7 is a pivotal milestone in a girl’s education. Students prepare to expand on the knowledge and skills gained in primary school and dive into new and exciting learning to challenge themselves and discover their unique passions and areas of interest. Sacred Heart Educators at KRB provide an individualised education in a supportive environment to allow each student to flourish.
An All-Girls Environment
At Kincoppal-Rose Bay, the Senior School provides a nurturing all-girls environment where students are empowered to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Research shows that girls in single-sex schools have higher participation rates in STEM subjects and sport, achieve stronger academic results, and develop greater confidence, resilience, and ambition. Girls’ school graduates are six times more likely to consider majoring in Maths, Science, and Technology compared to girls who attended coeducational schools (Goodman Research Group, The Girls’ School Experience: A Survey of Young Alumnae of Single-Sex Schools). At KRB, tailored programs and leadership opportunities help students defy gender stereotypes and flourish in every aspect of their education
Wellbeing
At Kincoppal-Rose Bay, student wellbeing is developed through KRB’s unique SELF+ Framework (Social, Emotional, Learning to Flourish), designed to support every student to be the best version of themselves.
The transition into Senior School is a significant aspect of one’s schooling and KRB has a strong program of support that enables this transition to be as effective as possible. Year 7 students benefit from a targeted program to assist this transition, and some activities within the program are: an Outdoor Education Camp, Vertical Wellbeing (where they interact with students from different year groups in their House), Big Sister/ Little Sister and the Peer Support program, all of which foster connection and a sense of belonging. Staff are also very aware of meeting the individual needs of all Year 7 students and prioritise the importance of ensuring each student is well-known and valued as she commences in the Senior School.
Intentional initiatives, such as Tech-Free Thursdays and a strong Mobile Phone Policy, ensure students are present and engaged, building resilience, connections, and a strong sense of community.
Excellence Through Balance
Academic Excellence
KRB offers a range of bespoke programs to tailor learning to individual needs in order to nurture each student to reach her potential.
The Senior School Honours Program provides a differentiated curriculum and appropriate academic challenge for our gifted and high potential learners from Years 7 to 10 in key subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, Religion, PDHPE, History and Geography.
When students move into Year 9, they can include a number of Cambridge International IGCSE courses as part of their academic program. Introduced in 2024, this internationally recognised curriculum presents a range of opportunities for transformative learning. In 2026, the IGCSE subjects that will be available include English Literature, Mathematics, Combined Science, Chinese, Computer Science, French, Global Perspectives and Marine Science.
KRB’s Homework Centre offers academic support for students in Years 7 to 12, operating Monday to Thursday from 3:30pm to 6:00pm for day students and until 8:30pm for boarders. Located in the Mary Agnes O’Neil Library, students are supported in small groups by teachers and tutors across a range of subjects as they complete homework tasks or revision work, prepare for assessment tasks, seek assistance with challenging topics and develop study and organisational skills.
“I have made so many amazing memories this year at some of my favourite events including Year 7 Camp, Sacred Heart Day (such a special day at KRB) and the Athletics and Swimming carnivals.” – Eliza, Year 7, 2025
Ignite Cocurricular Program
The KRB IGNITE Co-curricular Program offers students a diverse range of enriching experiences designed to foster personal growth beyond the classroom.
Through five key areas – Intellectual Pursuits and Challenges, Creative and Performing Arts, Community and Active Service, Global Future Competencies, and Sport and Movement – students are encouraged to explore new interests, build confidence, and strive for excellence.
The extensive range of opportunities such as robotics, chess, public speaking, Duke of Edinburgh, service initiatives, and artist-in-residence sessions to name a few, helps each student discover their passions and flourish, making a KRB education truly distinctive.
Global Opportunities
At KRB, global experiences are transformative journeys that empower students to become compassionate, confident leaders in an interconnected world. As part of the International Society of the Sacred Heart, KRB connects with over 150 schools across more than 40 countries.
KRB offers opportunities for Virtual (online), Domestic and Global student exchanges. There are also a range of academic study tours offered each year. In 2026, a group of students from Years 6, 7 and 8 will be embarking on a Future Innovators Tour, exploring Singapore’s vibrant cultural heritage and its global leadership in sustainability, while also participating in STEM exchanges with international schools. This is a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on learning that fosters inquiry, innovation, and creativity. Students also have opportunities to join First Nations immersion programs as well as hands-on service-learning projects around the world.
Sport
Sport is a vital part of being a student at KRB, with research linking participation to improved mental and physical health, resilience, and perseverance. As one of the few girls’ schools where sport is compulsory, KRB offers a wide variety of options – from sailing and basketball to dance, gymnastics, badminton, hockey, and football and so much more – to ensure there is something for every student.
The school’s expansive 7-hectare campus features outstanding facilities including a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, playing fields, multipurpose courts, a dance studio and a strength and conditioning gym.
“KRB will help you become the best version of yourself.” - India, Year 12, 2025, Prefect Community and Active Services.
