Sophie Green – Class of 2013

Alumna Sophie Green has recently established an early childhood education service in Millthorpe, NSW called Grove Start.  The service is the first of its kind in Australia in that it is situated within a government Primary School.

Sophie graduated from Kincoppal-Rose Bay in 2013. In 2018, she graduated from Charles Sturt University with a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary).   Sophie is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Special and Inclusive Education, specializing in early childhood (ages birth to five) to further support all children in reaching their full potential.

Working in the sector for the last 10 years in multiple towns across the Central West and in leadership roles for 5 years (Director of 2 Childcare Centres) and developing her leadership skills through various management roles in early childhood services across the Central West, Sophie and her business partner Johannah have established a newly approved, privately owned early childhood education and care service, providing a high quality pre-school educational program aimed at developing children’s academic, physical, social and emotional skills.

Grove Start caters for children aged three to five years old and being located on the grounds of the historic Millthorpe Public School, allows Sophie and Johannah to integrate a play-and interest-based educational program within a primary school environment. This approach instils a sense of confidence and belonging as the children prepare for their transition into primary school. Grove Start also has a strong focus on connecting children with their local and wider community through participation in events such as the local markets and show; visiting the village shops, museums and gardens; and inviting local community members to share their knowledge, skills and stories.

Sophie is passionate about creating inclusive environments, where each child feels valued, supported and empowered to succeed.  Her goal is to create learning experiences that are both fun and joyful, ensuring every child feels excited and supported as they grow and thrive.  Together with Johannah, Sophie is excited to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of the children and their families involved with Grove Start.
