Morgan Yuen graduated from KRB in 2019. At the end of 2022, Morgan completed (one trimester early) a Bachelor of Music (Classical) and graduated from the Australian Institute of Music. After graduation at AIM, Morgan was accepted by UTS to study a Bachelor of Music & Sound Design with some RPL. Morgan is also searching for a sound design internship and is currently enjoying working in retail for a sports brand.
“AIM is a private university, where everyone knows each other as classes can be as few as 10 students. It’s very easy to find someone to perform/record/compose with since everyone is a musician specializing in various areas. Our teachers at AIM helped us during lockdowns by encouraging students to share their music on YouTube for enjoyment & recognition. Lecturers did so well to deliver class materials, they were either live-streamed or pre-recorded so we could follow the materials at our own pace. My favorite classes were Film Music Critical Studies, Introduction to Film & Screen and Film Ensemble. The lecturer, Jonathan Dower, was very helpful and patient. He made the classes very interesting by giving us tips on working in the film industry and he always helped us to remain calm before exams. The classes were so much fun, he inspired me to go down the path of becoming a sound designer in the film industry.”
“KRB offered excellent co-curricular opportunities. I am glad I joined Cross Country and it helped me through the hard times.
I’m also lucky to have my dad to guide me through the diet, training & especially getting me through the devilish 37 km time. In my third and most recent marathon, I ran my fastest time at 3 hours 29 mins however this time hardly qualifies for my dream race, the Boston Marathon. After suffering from some stress fractures after this race, I have rested and am slowly building up my running distances and stamina again so I can continue to run and improve my marathon times.
Musical studies aside, Morgan’s other passion is running. In Year 9, Morgan joined the KRB Cross Country team. She trained to become a competitive half marathon runner (21.1km) and had completed 15 half marathons between Years 9-12 with a Personal Best (PB) time of 1 hour 57 mins. After Morgan graduated from KRB, she joined a running group, The Run Squad, coached by KRB 2018’s Athletic Head Coach, Warren Williams. Morgan has improved her half marathon running time by nearly 20 mins and now has completed 40 half marathons with a PB time of 1 hour 36 mins. Morgan has placed top 3 in her age group in ten races and has also broken a course record. During the lockdown of 2021, Morgan debuted a marathon (42.2km) with a time of 3 hours 39 mins by running 11.2 laps in a 3.8km circle in Centennial Park. Her dad was pacing her; he is a four times Boston qualifier with a PB of 3 hours 9 mins! In the Hobart Half Marathon in 2022, Morgan was one minute short from placing 1st in her age group. Morgan competing in the SMC Sydney Road Race Series (21.1km) and achieved her fastest half marathon time and she broke the course record for her age.
